Innovative Product Wins 2019 Government Security Award (Govie) in the Access Control Devices/Peripherals Category
April 10, 2019 – Orion Entrance Control, Inc. (Orion) won its second Government Security Award (Govie) award when Security Today magazine announced Orion’s Secure DoorGuardTM (DoorGuard) tailgate detection system as the 2019 platinum recipient in the Access Control Devices/Peripherals category. The awards honor outstanding government security products in a variety of categories.
About Secure DoorGuard
Orion is a U.S. owned and operated manufacturer and global provider of optical SpeedLane turnstile solutions. The DoorGuard tailgate detection system is the company’s newest product addressing a tremendous need to further protect against unauthorized entry. It uses a solid-state LiDAR sensor to accurately determine when someone is attempting to gain entry through a secured access point (such as swinging doors, sliding doors, or virtual/no doors) after a visitor or employee swipes their access card. The high accuracy of this product allows the detector to determine the difference between additional individuals versus bags, strollers and other objects.
“Our DoorGuard system continues to gain significant industry attention and we are so pleased about this recognition from Security Today magazine. We took a fresh look at the tailgating challenge that entrance control systems need to address with an eye towards technology, flexibility and compatibility and believe that DoorGuard addresses them all,” said Steve Caroselli, CEO and founder of Orion.
A History of Accolades
Orion won a “Govie” award in 2015 for its Optical Barrier Swing Glass – High Glass (OBSG-HG) entrance control system, which is one of the company’s most popular products. This year’s winners were selected by an independent panel of judges from the security who evaluated applicants based on the following criteria: features, innovation, user-friendliness, interoperability, quality, design, market opportunity and impact in the security industry, technical advances and scalability.
“Each year we have the opportunity to view the latest and greatest products that will impact the government security sector, and this year’s contest is no different,” said Ralph C. Jensen, editor in chief of GovSec and Security Today magazines and website securitytoday.com. “The solutions that have been entered represent great technology and innovations. I applaud all our entries and appreciate their tireless efforts to secure the government sector.”
The company is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2019 and recently tripled its production space due to high product demand and the development of next-generation products such as DoorGuard. Orion’s products have won numerous awards, and Orion is considered an industry resource and innovator in the access control field, regularly contributing to industry publications and offering expertise at trade events and conferences.
In addition to the 2019 Government Security Award, the DoorGuard system also was further designated the platinum 2019 Secure Campus Award from Campus Security & Safety magazine.
