Tailgating isn’t a visibility problem, it’s a verification problem.

Every access control system has a blind spot. It sits in the seconds after a door opens.

A credential is presented. It’s valid. The door releases. And at that moment, knowing whether one person walked through, or three is very crucial.

This is tailgating.

It’s one of the most frequently occurring physical security vulnerabilities across enterprise, healthcare, data center, and government facilities worldwide. And unlike a forced entry or a stolen badge, it rarely triggers an alert, rarely shows up in a log, and almost never gets reported, because there’s no record it happened.

Orion DoorGuard™ approaches the problem differently.

Powered by Orion Nebula AI™ and LiDAR technology, DoorGuard detects tailgating at the entrance, and sends alerts in real time. This protects privacy, by mapping movement as volume, not identity.

Reading the space, not faces

Rather than relying on cameras, which require image processing, storage, and increasingly complex privacy compliance, DoorGuard™ uses LiDARa technology that reads the space, volume and vector intent.

A pulsing beam of light continuously scans the entrance zone, generating a real-time point cloud of the space. When more than one volume passes through a single credential event, the system detects it and triggers an immediate alert. No image is captured. No face is recognized. No biometric data is stored.

Because it maps depth and volume rather than visual cues, DoorGuard™ cannot be fooled by masks, helmets, hats, or poor lighting. It works in dim data center corridors, sun-flooded lobbies, and everywhere in between.

The result is 99.9% counting accuracy, with real-time density and flow data fed directly into the Orion Infinity™ platform for integrated occupancy intelligence.

Privacy by design, not policy

As privacy regulations tighten globally, organizations face growing pressure to justify the surveillance tools they deploy. DoorGuard™ makes that conversation simple.

Because it captures volume rather than imagery, it is compliant with GDPR and BIPA by architecture. There is no database of faces to breach, no images to subpoena, and no surveillance stigma to manage with employees or visitors. Security teams get the detection capability they need. Legal and compliance teams get an answer they can stand behind.

Next Generation of DoorGuard™

Orion DoorGuard™ expands on the proven platform with a significant new capability: flexible mounting configurations designed to fit a wider range of physical environments.

Pendant mount: Suspended from above, pendant mounting is ideal for open lobbies, atriums, and environments where ceiling mounting isn’t practical, but an elevated vantage point is needed.

In-ceiling mount: For facilities that prioritize a seamless, low-profile installation, the in-ceiling configuration integrates directly into the ceiling plane, with no visible hardware protruding into the space.

Wall mount: Angled downward at 45 degrees, the wall-mount configuration delivers wide entrance coverage from a compact, unobtrusive form factor. Suited for standard door frames and high-traffic corridors.

All the previous DoorGuard™ models remain fully supported and continue to serve thousands of installations worldwide.

If tailgating is an open question in your security posture, it doesn’t have to be. We can show you how to close this gap.
